Trump says he'll drop sanctions on Syria in move to normalize relations

President Donald Trump announced during a speech in Saudi Arabia that he will lift sanctions on Syria and meet with the country’s new president, Ahmed al-Shaara, on Wednesday.

Trump hails Saudi Arabia's progress towards peace in Middle East

President Donald Trump visited Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and praised the government's effort to produce peace in the region.

President Donald Trump will drop sanctions against Syria and meet with the nation’s new president Ahmed al-Shaara on Wednesday. 

"In Syria, which has seen so much misery and death, there is a new government that we must all hope will succeed in stabilizing the country and keeping peace," Trump said in a speech Saudi Arabia. 

"So I say good luck, Syria."

The nation was cut off from the global financial system under ousted President Bashar al-Assad's government, amid 14 years of civil war.
