SMOKE FROM UNKNOWN PASSENGER DEVICE FORCES EMERGENCY LANDING OF AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT TO WASHINGTON-DULLES

The Boeing aircraft descended to 10,000 feet, a standard emergency altitude, following a possible cabin depressurization, according to flight tracking data.

It is unclear what caused the alleged crack in the plane's windshield.
